Servo Drive Brake
Brakes for servo-drives must ensure that a position that has been moved to must be held as exactly as possible, i.e. with the minimum possible amount of play or backlash, when the motor is switched off. In the case of a power failure, the brake must become activated for reasons of safety and bring that masses that are being moved to a stop within a short interval of time. In addition to the permantent magnet body that has been used in the main for such applications up to the present time, a newly developed, play-free electromagnetic spring applied brake is now available. This is characterized by its simple form of construction and short response time. In contrast to permanent magnet brakes, electromagnetic spring-applied brakes are unaffected by even large variations in the supply voltage. In addition extreme variations in temperature have no effect on the brake angle.
